I am often asked, “What is your favorite Walt Disney World date night?” and although I have a few go to options, I find hubby and I always return to the tried and true monorail crawl!
A monorail crawl is a tour of the resorts along the monorail resort loop in Walt Disney World. We usually begin our tour in the Contemporary Resort, as our children love the Pixar Play Zone – a resort exclusive children’s club. We drop them off and sign them in around 5:00pm, then head to the Outer Rim Lounge. The lounge is located in the lobby across from the playzone.
While at the Outer Rim Lounge, we enjoy the Blue Glotini’s the lounge is famous for. The Blue Glotini is Skyy Infusions Citrus Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps, Bols Blue Curaçao, and Pineapple Juice with a Sugared Rim and a souvenir Glow Cube! It’s absolutely scrumptious!
Once our glowing delights are gone, we hop on the monorail to our next stop, Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort! Were we bee line for the Tambu Tambu Lounge and its amazing sticky wings and Lapu Lapus! If you haven’t had a sticky wing, let me tell you, you have not lived! These wings – also served at O’hana the Tambu Lounges sister restaurant- are some of the most delectable wings in the world. They are coated in with tangy mustard drizzle that is out of this world. Paired with a fruity pineapple Lapu Lapu – Myers’s Original Dark Rum and Tropical Fruit Juices served in a fresh Pineapple topped with Goslings 151 Rum- it’s the perfect appetizer.
From there we embark on the monorail for the Grand Floridian and the elegance of the Mizner Lounge. With its direct proximity to the Grand Floridian Society Orchestra, the Mizner lounge is the perfect spot to take in the jazz standards while enjoying a cocktail or Flatbread pizza. Our favorite go to items from the menu are Citricos Crab Salad and the Seasonal Flatbread. With its fresh Arugula and avacado, the Citricos Crab Salad is a light and delicious appetizer to the Flatbread Pizza. The Flatbread pairs nicely with the salad. The most recent Seasonal Flatbread we had was made of Soppressata, Arugula and Parmesan cheese with Marinated Olives sprinkled over the top. As the name suggests it changes ingredients with the season, making it a new set of flavors with each visit!
We love this date for many reasons, but the close proximity to the kids and convenience of the monorail are definitely our top two. Next time you are in Walt Disney World and give the monorail crawl a try, let us know your favorite parts! Cheers!
